Column by Sascha – Vulnerably exposed

So in one of my previous columns that I wrote I ended with “I dare you to uncover your work”. I realised I have not shown any work of my own.

I got an assignment to make a video about the body. This is of course very broad and it took me a while to figure out how I was going to do this. I’ve decided to base it on the form it takes when it comes in contact with water and glass.

It’s the first time I have ever made a video. It started off with my desk. Its made out of glass and I filmed from underneath it. In order to be sure that I was filming the right bit of my desk I put a mirror on the floor and held my camera above it. My camera shows what it films on the screen and the mirror shows the screen. This way I could place my head above my desk and figure where to lay my camera. I could see through the glass to the mirror, which showed me the part I was filming with my camera. It was complicated but worked. It was quite dangerous however because I had to stand on the glass in order to film the bits with my feet. Though the glass isn’t that thick and I’m not the lightest. I wont be doing that anytime soon again.

It’s been 10 days since I uploaded it to YouTube as a private video and I think I’m finally ready to share it with more people. It’s not only that its my first video ever made that scares me but also the fact that I’m in the video. I actually really look a bit mental. It shows anger, terror and desperation as I am imprisoned in my world made out of glass. Breaking free is out of the question. This is not really how I would like to represent myself all the time!

I hope that whoever reads this will like it. I hope it also inspires you to take risks of your own. If you have something you’ve always wanted to share please do it, do not be afraid. Or better said, be afraid but don’t let it hold you back. Thrive on the thrill of getting to know the unknown and unsaid. Dumpjekunst is a beautiful platform for you to share what you have and receive some feedback. Enjoy the video!
